Kvareli Foundation for Contemporary Art is conceived as more than an exhibition space - it is an integrated cultural environment where art, landscape, and hospitality coexist.
Set within an expansive estate in Kakheti, the Foundation includes the five-star The House Hotel Kvareli, allowing visitors to experience exhibitions and programs in direct continuity with their surroundings. The grounds - comprising vineyards, a working winery, orchards, and wooded areas - form a living landscape that actively shapes the institution's identity.
This experience extends through architectural and outdoor elements, including a rooftop amphitheatre for screenings and performances, and open spaces for large-scale and site-specific works. Together, these components position the Foundation as a destination where contemporary art unfolds in direct relation to environment, context, and time.
accommodation
The hotel at Kvareli Foundation for Contemporary Art is conceived as an
integral part of the estate, embedded within its landscape rather than
separate from it.
Set among vineyards and woodland, the architecture is defined by a
restrained, contemporary language that emphasizes proportion,
materiality, and light. Guest rooms and shared spaces are oriented
toward the surrounding environment, creating a calm, immersive
atmosphere, while amenities are seamlessly integrated into the broader
rhythm of the site.
In this context, the hotel functions not simply as accommodation, but
as a place of residence within the Foundation's cultural environment.
WINERY
The estate's winery, Vazovani, operates as a small-scale production
facility in which winemaking is approached as a precise and continuous
process.
Working exclusively with estate-grown grapes, Vazovani maintains full
control from cultivation to bottling, ensuring a direct relationship
between land and production. Traditional Georgian methods are preserved
within this system and combined with contemporary technologies, allowing
for a balance between inherited practice and technical precision.
Integrated into the broader estate, Vazovani functions not only as a
site of production, but as part of the Foundation's larger
environment - where processes of cultivation and making exist in close
dialogue with the cultural and spatial context of the Foundation.
GUIDED TOURS
The Kvareli Foundation for Contemporary Art offers guided tours both
across its grounds and throughout the wider region of Kakheti.
On-site tours provide insight into the Foundation's exhibitions,
architecture, and landscape, and include a visit to the estate's
winery, Vazovani, where visitors can observe the wine production
process firsthand. These are complemented by curated visits to
Kakheti's cultural landmarks, including historic towns and monastic
complexes such as the Alaverdi Monastery, situating the Foundation
within a broader historical and cultural context.
Together, these tours extend the Foundation's program beyond its
physical site, framing it within the layered cultural geography of
Kakheti.
